Description
Tilmicosin is chemically modified long-acting macrolide antibiotic applied in the veterinary medicine. It is active mainly against Gram-positive and some Gram-negative microorganisms (Streptococci, Staphylococci, Pasteurella spp., mycoplasmas, etc.). Applied orally in pigs, tilmicosin reaches maximum blood levels after 2 hours and maintains high therapeutic concentrations in the target tissues. It is concentrated in the lungs, penetrating intracellularly in the alveolar macrophages. It is eliminated mainly through feces and urine. Tilmicosin induces no teratogenic and embryotoxic effect.
Indications
For prophylactics (metaphylactics) and treatment of bacterial respiratory diseases caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (enzootic pneumonia); Actonobacillus pleuropneumoniae (actinobacillus pleuropneumonia); Haemophilus parasuis (Haemophilus pneumonia or Glasser’s disease); Pasteurella multocida (pasteurellosis); Bordetella bronchiseptica and other microorganisms sensitive to tilmicosin.
Secondary bacterial infections associated with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and circovirus pneumonia.
Bacterial infections of the alimentary tract caused by Brachispira hyodysenteriae (classic dysentery); Lawsonia intracellularis (proliferative and hemorrhagic ileitis); Brachispira pilosicoli (colon spirochetosis); Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp.; in stress conditions for prevention (metaphylactics) after weaning, moving, regrouping and transportation of pigs.
